Help Penta restore mobility to those in need!

By supporting Penta, you can change the life of someone like Ha...

For Nguyen Van Ha, 58, as with so many Vietnamese of his generation, war has been an inescapable, looming shadow. Born during the Vietnam War, Ha later served as a soldier in the Cambodian-Vietnamese War and carries the tragic memory of that service everywhere: during a march at nightfall in 1983, Ha stepped on a landmine, the detonation of which tore off his right leg. For 34 years, Ha was forced to use old, heavy, wooden prostheses that were ill-suited to the wet conditions of Vietnam's rainy season and that caused decades of discomfort and pain, but were all that he could afford. As a security guard at a Buddhist pagoda, Ha was practically unable to work due to the movement required, and his dream of travelling the world seemed sure to never be realized.

Then, in 2017, Ha became one of the first amputees to receive a limb through Penta. Through a local orthopedic hospital with which we had partnered, Ha was fitted with a waterproof lower-limb device that was half the weight of his previous prosthesis. With the new device, Ha was able to return to his job with vigor, easily climbing the stairs of the pagoda, and has visited Indonesia, Malaysia, and Ha Long Bay in northern Vietnam.

On this last trip, when a young girl fell overboard during a scenic boat tour of the bay, Ha was able to jump into the sea to save her, fully clothed and with his repurposed water-proof leg, a feat which he would never have previously been able to accomplish. Not only had Ha's life changed, he told us, but he was now able to change the lives of others!

By contributing to Penta's campaign, you can change the life of someone just like Ha. Please consider contributing and helping us accomplish our goal of restoring mobility to amputees around the world!
